Greetings from Germany - Home is where the heart is challenge

Hey there,

Tammy from PaperPrettyBoutique is hosting the Home Is Where the Heart is Challenge sponsored by Lawn Fawn. A wonderful challenge but it took me a long time to create my card. The first question was about the country I should choose for my card - the one I live in or the one my heart is drawn to... I finally decided on the country I live in: Germany. Next question was: what should I put on the card? What is typically German/Germany. I had to do some google research and eventually found some good pointers that inspired me. The last question concerned the card design. I decided to create Polaroid pictures and combined those with the Flippin' Awesome Die. I was very happy when I noticed that the Polaroid frames are very well the size required for the Flippin'Awesome die.

Because of all these decisions that had to be made I started my card way too late. ;) I had to really hurry to finish it in time. I am so glad I did and was able to join the challenge.

Some words on the Polaroid pictures, what they are meant to show and why:

The first German habit I chose was cars. We do have some well established companies and also the German Autobahn is quite famous.

The second one was gnomes that Germans used to (or still do) decorate their gardens with. I used the gnomes on three of the polaroids.

The second polaroid shows a gnome with lots of sausages since Germans love grilled or cooked sausages. I hesitated between two captions for the Polaroid: "Eat healthy" and "Work efficiently". I decided on the second variant because I was able to cover another one of our characteristics with a wink. ;)

The third picture is about football/soccer. I guess here is no further explanation needed.

The last one is about beer. I personally don't drink beer at all, but most other people do. So here we go.

The pull-out scene with the sentiment showcases a little castel since Germany has a quite old history and you can find a lot of castles spread around the country.

Creation:

I used various stamp and die sets to create my five scenes. For the scenery I used the trees from "Happy Village" and the pine trees from "Happy Trails".

To cut the hills I used "Simple stitched hillside borders" or "Stitched hillside borders" respectively, and for the grassy hills I used "Simple grassy hillsides".  All elements were cut from white Cardstock and coloured in using distress inks.

Then I stamped and coloured all my images and die cut them afterwards. The gnomes are from the "Oh Gnome!" stamp set, the cars from "Happy Village", the sausages from "Let's BBQ", the little castle is from "Fantastic Friends" and the beer mugs are altered hot-cocoa-with-marshmallow-mugs from "Holiday Helpers"(I used a white gel pen to turn the marshmallows into the foam on the beer and I tried to mimic the shape of a beer mug with their round indentions using a blender pen and a light gray marker).

The Polaroid frames are from "Selfie Frames". I cut those from white Cardstock as well and hand lettered the captions for each scene. I assembled the individual scenes. For the first scene with the cars I created a slider element using the "Slide on over dies", a 2 Cent coin and a slider piece from MFT. Even though this Polaroid got quite bulky from having to use foam tape, it still slides flawlessly.

Finally I used the "Flippin' Awesome Die" for the flipping part. For the pull-out scene I used "Cole's ABCs" for the sentiment. I coated the letters with VersaMark ink and covered them with black glitter embossing powder to give them some sparkle and shine. I attached the Polaroids to the Flippin awesome element instead of the squares that you normally use.

For my Background I used a splatter backdrop stamp by IO and three distress inks in the colours of the German flag. I muted the background with a layer of vellum before attaching the flipping piece to it.

Later (after taking the pictures) I noticed that the pull tab get stuck when sliding it back due to the die cut letters. I therefore covered the whole pull tab piece with a piece of acetate to make it slide smoothly.

And that's it. I hope you like my card.
